Plaka is a small, traditional village near the coast, of Apokwronas County, somewhere between Chania and Rethymno cities. It stands on a low hill, less than a kilometer from Almyrida beach and thankfully it has retained its local flair and cultural traits. Its main features are the slip-roads and rocky beaches with the numerous sea-caves. The sea caves in the area amount to around 215 and the most known one is the Elephant Cave. Plaka enjoys excellent views of Almyrida and of course Souda Bay and the azure Cretan Sea. As in any traditional Greek village there is a lovely main square which is the focal point of local life, where one can find cafeterias and traditional coffee shops.
Do try the local shops and taverns where you will taste very good local wine and cuisine. Plaka is highly recommended to those who are seeking a more tranquil way of vacationing, who want to relax and unwind, enjoy nature and be part of local life away from touristic crowds and larger tourist resorts such as Kalyves, Georgioupolis, Rethymnon and Chania. In the village you will find all the necessary amenities such as: Mini market/SuperMarket/ Grocery Shop/Bakery, Traditional taverns, Cafes, Pharmacy, Organized beaches,
